The Photographer Contemplates...

This fellow photographer ended up in a bunch of my compositions one particular evening.. he seemed so enthralled with the beautiful sunset sky that he wasn't too busy shooting. Don't know if he was thinking about his foreground setup at all either, being out there on the edge, but to each his own:)... and very nice of him to stand so still for the 8 seconds duration of this exposure.  It didn't bother me much, because I knew I could easily remove him from the scene later if necessary and I just went on undisturbed.  If there's a whole bunch of gawkers standing in the scene, that CAN get to be a problem.  I left him in here this time because I think the figure adds a bit of story to the shot. You might question my choice to render such a colorful scene in monochrome, but I have so many color versions of this already and I like it this way.. your mind's eye fills in the colors and the textures of the rocks, sea and cloud are so awesome all by themselves.
My posts (and comments, sorry) will probably continue to be irregular for the near future.. the practicalities of life sometimes intrude on creative endeavors and that is my story for now.  In short, we are preparing to leave the city life and move full time to our house in a small village high in the southern California mountains, so life is going to change drastically, but first there is a lot to deal with here as you can imagine. More info on this as it occurs, I suppose.  In the meantime I don't have much opportunity to travel or work on new stuff, but it should all be better in the end.
You can view more beautiful skies from all over the world each week here at the SkyWatch home page.

The rocks appear to be floating in the clouds and light. I like it in B&W. Good luck with the move.

Gaelyn is right...the rocks do appear to be floating in the clouds...and the figure works really well to add that extra moments of thought..wait, but there's a man in the clouds!!! All the best w/ your move...always such a big deal, but it sounds absolutely lovely, a house in a small village high in the mountains of Southern Ca...ahh!

The monochrome makes the waves look like clouds! And the figure on the rocks drastically change the mood of the photo... I get to wondering what he's doing out there - I actually thought that was his dog with him! See, I'm making up a story already! {:-Deb

I love photographs of photographers. It is a very dramatic scene and enhanced by him, providing some scale. Nice choice of monochrome too :-)
So life changing events for you, it sounds very exciting...I wish you well and will catch up now and then. Take care Mark and yours X

Wow, is this a scene from some sci-fi movie? Amazing shot! Each photographer tries to do something different and out of the box, may be he was trying something we can't think of and that's why may be he was away at the edge without worrying of the foreground... :-)Your photography is amazing!

All the best for your move Mark! Country living sure beats city living by a mile... a country mile in fact :)

The figure does add to the shot, especially the distance they are at.

it is another very beautiful and very inspiring shot from you, Mark. i wish you very well in your move, high in the southern california mountains sounds very relaxing, peaceful and inspiring, and knowing that our mountains are not that very far from the coast, you can always make a visit to the city and this spot of the ocean if you want to.

Hi Mark. I agree that the figure gives dramatic scale to the image. It implies a vastness that I am not certain the viewer would appreciate without the frame of reference. Nice use of the prop :-)
