Some Magical Light

This little tree resides in the community park near my house, where I walk most days near sunset after hard hours at the computer. Normally, this would be nothing to even turn my head for, but one day a few weeks ago, for a few fleeting moments as I was walking by, this beautiful light from the setting sun illuminated the tree against the colorful, wintery sky. This also was caught with my phone.. I truly regret I didn't have a "real" camera with me.. but hey, I think this is a lot better than nothing, even though it will be forever relegated to greeting card size prints.
Funny how it works.. sometimes you can travel a long distance, wait for hours for something to happen and then maybe it does, maybe it doesn't; other times you're just walking by and see something really incredible.. how often have YOU been in that situation and wanted to kick yourself for being unprepared?

Check out other beautiful skies from around the world or post your own at the SkyWatch home page.

This is a stunning shot! And at least you had a camera on you, and the batteries were working! Great shot.

I love shots of opportunity and this is a great example. The tree looks illuminated from within.

Marvelous capture! Like the others, shots of opportunity are the best! And this is a perfect example! Terrific! Hope you have a great weekend, Mark!

At least you had your phone along, so you could capture it! I love that low angle light when the sun is near the horizon! It makes everything look different!

Stunning shot! Perfect timing on the lighting. I've gotten into the habit of bringing my camera whenever I go out. Always hoping for that 'wow' shot.

May I ask what camera phone you are using?

Lovely capture. Yes there have been times when I was cameraless and see that once in a life time opportunity for a fabulous photo wasted. It can be frustrating.

Thanks a lot everyone!

@Loïc: Thanks, and I will check that out.. I don't have a Facebook account as of yet, but was thinking about that anyway, so will be glad to join your group.

@L&V: That was on my iPhone.. certainly not the best as far as cameras in phones go from what I've heard.. some are much better, but that wasn't my main concern in selecting it. At least it's always with me:)

It's all two easy to push things to the side that we see everyday... the skill and "fun" is in spotting it. Lovely shot Mark!

Our trees by the lake turn that same golden color in November, at sunset. We call it the Golden Tree Hour, and pop a cork. It's the perfect celebration. I've never been able to capture a good image of the event however - maybe because of the wine? Hm. Must ponder. This photo is stunning.

Very nice Mark and at this size we can't devine it's not from a real camera.

I can't say how many times i was in that situation but i can say that the last one was about 4 days ago when i missed a stunning blue hour with pink clouds for just some minutes :)

PS : Your title made me smile :)

Amazing lighting! I always seem to be in my car and unable to stop when the most fabulous lighting falls upon the landscape. Oh well. I just take it all in and enjoy it while it lasts. You got lucky on this one though!!
