It's such an advantage to be really familiar with a place before you try to photograph it. Whenever I travel, I have to rely largely on luck and instinct to be there when the conditions are right... it can be a frustrating experience as many of you know well, especially if a lot of time and expense were involved in getting somewhere. Here at home, however, I can watch the weather and the sky every day and just know when it's going to be happening. Occasionally it's a bust, other times like this, it's way better than expected.
Virtually no processing on this (yet)... just a slight exposure tweak and a bit of levels in the sky.

This must be the most wonderful sunset I have ever seen, and salso behind this beautiful see..., a 110% picture!!
Nice weekend from Anne in Norway.
Wow, stunning sunset it does look as if it is on fire. Thanks for sharing:)
The magenta and orange hues complement the blues of the seascape beautifully!
Happy SkyWatch! :-)
WOW, one of the best photos I've seen in quite some time, outstanding.
All the best

Week to week, your skywatch images are the best. I like the composition of the image. I like the colors. I like the moment you are showing us.

Simply spectacular.
Sydney - City and Suburbs
Simply Stunning!!!
A gorgeous sky, Mark, and I love how those beautiful colors are reflected on the ocean and rocks. An excellent skywatch!
The light reflections are so fabulous! What an amazing scene and sky combined!
Ditto all the comments above...spectacular scene!
looks a little amonous (as you can tell, I never use that word!) It reminds me of my summer at Isla Vista, when we use to climb the trees on the cliffs, and watch the sun set! {:-D
Wow, i would dream to see that myself!
Excellent work as always
nice one - the little flow of water bottom right really gives the image depth and connection

When I am in Brasil, I get excellent shots and do not need use it some effect....the weather helps me so much...

Nothing to add Mark.
Colors are amazing and i also like the little waterfall in the lower right corner.
Breathtaking!
Lovely pic!
ahhh, stunning. my husband always tell me that why i am so crazy for sunset in the desert when we can have great sunset here at home, and looking at your picture, i know he's so right. but we are lucky to be living close to both ocean, desert and mountain, we can have different scenery, but then, of course, ocean is the closest, and sometimes, a lot others neglect since it is just close by.
really wonderful shot, jaw dropping indeed!
Yet, another, 'other worldly' shot...your eye is so well honed...beauteous!!
My goodness, what I would do to see that in person. Gorgeous!
Hello...I stopped by at the suggestion of a blog friend Amy, she thought I would love your photos and she was correct...
This sunset is stunning...I'm a huge fan of sun, sand, water and sunsets in any order...my home is on the shores of a beautiful lake...my studio windows face west and in the last 20 years I've see many gorgeous sunsets, but it has only been in the last few months that I've started taking photos of them...I'm a fair weather photographer though as now that we have ice, snow and cold I haven't taken one, I'll have to brave the cold in particular and snap one! :0)
Regardless...I do love your photos and have followed so I can watch for more...
Cheers
Fabulous! LOVED this one.
I'm was sure I'd commented on this shot(guess not bad memory) because when I saw this http://www.tmelive.com/index.php/forum/thread/6378.html on the mindful eye I recognised it instantly from here. I presume this is the equivalent over your side of the world of my lighthouse and big rock Ailsa Craig.
Sorry looks like my link did not work this should here
Hi Mook:
Yeah.. that's funny! (and good eye, BTW) I don't know if that one was on the same day, but it well could be.. there was one other guy working right next to me that evening (and another one in front, messin' up my shots). It is THE spot if you want to shoot seascapes in this town because you can walk out onto the rocks and the variety of light and surf is never ending.
If I was to turn around and shoot directly behind, you would be amazed at the scene.. nothing like it looks in these shots.
Not that hard to recognize details on other's work these days with the freedom of travel and images posting all around the world instantly.
